Event description

What’s it all about?

There are cameras all around us, and facial recognition is used in more of them every day. Learn how computers see, and how to become invisible to them without hiding your face from friends.

What will we cover?

This workshop includes a presentation explaining feature detection in facial recognition systems - no technical background is needed. We will each craft a piece of jewellery that disrupts facial feature detection and discuss what makes it effective.

Accessibility

  • Wheelchair Accessible Venue

  • Gender Neutral Bathrooms

  • Free Tickets to First Nation Attendees

Who will be teaching?

My name's Bot, James Bot. I research the powers that shape technology we use every day, and find ways for non-technical people to have more agency over their digital life. My background is in community arts and science engagement, and I'm studying a Master of Data Science Strategy and Leadership. Follow my TikTok for informative videos at @bot.jamesbot, my Instagram for live drag performance dates @bonk.jamesbonk, or my Bluesky for the best of Internet culture and research @jamesbot.bsky.social
