Event description

Talk Overview

“To him who devotes his life to science, nothing can give more happiness than increasing the number of discoveries, but his cup of joy is full when the results of his studies immediately find practical applications.” - Louis Pasteu

Investment in healthcare research leads to breakthroughs in treatment and care, benefiting patients and yielding financial returns. Translating these benefits effectively is crucial. Early stakeholder engagement, including individuals with disabilities, caregivers, practitioners, and developers, is key to successful development and translation of rehabilitation technologies.

Collaboration leverages stakeholders' expertise to balance the numerous and competing priorities for implementation in future design variations. Open communication and transparent decision-making ensure design iterations reflect user feedback.

In this talk, Dr Kelly Clanchy will explore how co-design principles were applied to BioSpine technology, prioritizing usability for individuals with spinal cord injuries. These methods, while specific to BioSpine, offer valuable insights for researchers and clinicians aiming to integrate stakeholder engagement into their projects.

BioSpine's Co-design team

Kelly Clanchy, Camila Shirota, and Jessie Mitchell comprise the translation arm of BioSpine Project team. They apply an interdisciplinary approach (representing engineering and allied health) to develop research methods that prioritise the voices of end-users to develop technology that meets user needs.
