What to expect:

Are you looking for an activity where you can work with your hands and fully immerse yourself in the creative process? Then this workshop is just for you! In this kids-friendly workshop, led by wood sculptor and pedagogue Teresa Hunyadi, you will dive into the art of stick whittling and small-scale wood sculpture. You’ll learn how your hands, tools, and the wood can work together to shape something truly unique. Even if you’ve never held a carving knife before, Teresa will guide you step by step on the journey from a simple branch to a small creature or miniature sculpture you can proudly take home. This method requires little space and only a few basic tools - perfect for young (and older) people who want to safely continue working with wood at home, and/or love spending time outdoors!

What you’ll learn during the workshop:

• How to whittle tree branches

• Basic and safe knife techniques

• How to care for your tools

• How to make use of the natural shapes in the wood

• The difference between fresh and dry wood, and how the tree’s characteristics influence your work

Good to know:

🕕 Doors are open from 15.45 so you can settle in.

👉 Please wear closed-toe shoes.

👓 Bring your reading glasses if you you usually use them.

🛠️ All tools and materials will be provided.

🧡 This workshop is intended for young people from 8+ years old and their adult companion who are eager to learn and create together, but it’s also open to adults who would like to join on their own.

Teresa Hunyadi is a wood sculptor with a strong emphasis on sustainability. She studied wood carving at universities in Austria and Japan and teaches at universities in Scotland and The Netherlands. Her work includes representational and abstract elements, predominantly created with hand tools in wood, valuing each piece for its own character as a living material.
