Event description

Bird Ecology & Identification Workshop – Berridale
📍 Berridale Hall (Tennis Club Hall)
🗓️ Sunday, October 19, 2025
🕚 11:00am – 1:00pm

Are you ready to take your birdwatching to the next level?

Join celebrated bird expert, author, and guide Ricki Coughlan for a deep dive into the fascinating world of bird behaviour, ecology, and identification.

This engaging and informative workshop will help you refine your birding skills while exploring what makes birds tick – from their physical adaptations and calls to their seasonal movements and habitat needs.

We’ll explore topics including:
🔎 Key features for identifying trickier species – especially Little Brown Birds
📚 Insights from Ricki’s book "Little Brown Birds of the Sydney Region", many of which also live here in the Snowy Monaro
🧠 The role of ecology and behaviour in accurate bird ID
🌱 What different species need to survive – and how we can support them

This workshop is ideal for nature lovers, birders, citizen scientists, and anyone keen to understand birds beyond the field guide.

🌿 Every participant will also receive a free local native shrub to plant at home to support local bird habitat.

🎒 What to bring:
• Notebook or device for notes
• Water bottle
• Curiosity and bird questions!

All welcome – children must be supervised by a responsible adult.
