Bird Walk at the Clean Waterways Expo
Event description
Join Gillian (Birdlife Australia) and Callum (Urban Guerrillas) for an introduction to the world of birds in urban waterways. We will introduce the importance of understanding birds and their ecology, as well as their benefits and the challenges they face in the modern world.
After a short introduction, we’ll head out and check out the birds along Gardiners Creek as well as the adjacent wetlands to U3A, looking for birds using modern apps such as Merlin and eBird to aid us in uncovering their sometimes hidden worlds. We’ll also show you some birding tricks and tips along the way. Finally, we’ll explain the power of citizen science in making a real difference to the environment and how it can play into important research on a larger scale.
