Event description

Mid-week Campout, Albany

Sunday 23 November to Friday 28 November (6 nights / 5 days, Members only)

Locations to be visited during the campout include Lake Seppings, Porongurup National Park, Torndirrup National Park and Wilson Inlet. Most of the Western Australian endemic species can be found in the areas around Albany including Baudin’s Black-Cockatoo, Western Rosella, White-breasted Robin and Red-eared Firetail. Depending upon the weather conditions, all places we plan to visit are accessible by conventional vehicles. Previous campouts have recorded a high number of species.

We will be based at the Kalgan River Caravan Park, 247 Nanarup Road (turn off opposite Great Southern Grammar School), Kalgan.

If you wish to attend the campout, BOOK EARLY by following the steps below:

Step 1: Register on Humanitix (bookings open on the 1st April) and, if you get a ticket, that is in the first thirty on the list, go to step 2.

Step 2: Contact the Kalgan River Caravan Park (telephone 08 9844 7937) to book your accommodation. Facilities ranging from camping and caravan sites to cabins and chalets are available. There is no need to let them know you are with BirdLife Western Australia. You can also contact the Caravan Park by e-mail on info@kalganrivercaravanpark.com.au. This is a popular holiday destination so BOOK EARLY to ensure you don’t miss out.

There will be an entry fee at some of the national parks so if you have a Western Australia national parks pass, bring it with you.

Note: As some locations do not have toilet facilities, you will need to be prepared to make alternative arrangements.

A briefing will be held on the grass area between Chalets 4 and 5 (if the weather is fine) at 5:30pm on the Sunday evening (23 November 2025). In the event of inclement weather, the briefing will be in the camper’s kitchen.

If there is a need to contact anyone on the campout, messages can be left at the caravan park office.

Members and their guests only (limit of 30 persons)
