    Event description

Take your wildlife photography to the next level with the challenge of birds in flight!

At this 2.5-hour workshop, you will learn about the camera settings used to capture fast-moving, unpredictable subjects. It's not just about aperture and shutter speed (although we do cover that) it's also about autofocus mode, autofocus area mode and more.

The workshop begins with a brief theory session, where you will learn about the settings and be shown how to find them on your camera if necessary. Then the rest of the afternoon is devoted to practice, with plenty of opportunity to ask for one-on-one help if you need it.

Subjects at Point Arkwright can include Ospreys, Brahminy Kites and Sea Eagles. On a good day, you might be lucky to see all three. But please note: we are aiming for wild birds in a natural setting, and there is no way to guarantee their cooperation! The number of good sightings will vary. However, if the afternoon yields no good photo opportunities you will be offered a free spot at the next workshop.

    What to bring:

    • Camera - DSLR or Mirrorless - all brands welcome
    • Telephoto lens - the more powerful the better but zoom lenses (not prime) are best, as subjects can fly from distant to very close, very quickly. If you have a 100-400mm, 150-600mm zoom or similar that would be ideal.
    • Make sure your battery is fully charged and bring a spare if you have one.
    • Make sure you have plenty of space available on your SD/Memory card
    • Hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes (you will be on your feet most of the afternoon)
    • There are public toilets at the park but no shop, so bring cold water and other refreshments if you need.
