Event description

The Bird Interest Group Network is an affiliation of NSW and ACT bird clubs, which holds workshops twice a year to discuss conservation issues, share knowledge, increase skills and source volunteers for projects.

The second BIGnet meeting for 2022 will be held at the Shoalhaven Heads Community Centre, 111 Shoalhaven Heads Rd and start at 9am with registration and end at 2.30pm.

Before the meeting, there will be a bird walk starting at 7am. The walk will leave from the migratory shorebird signage behind the toilets at the last car park at the end of River Road, Shoalhaven.

The meeting will cover bird conservation issues and presentations by members on their projects, with a short BIGnet business meeting after lunch.

The main presentation will be by Dr Sarah Pearson, BirdLife Australia's Conservation Strategy and Planning Coordinator - "BirdLife Australia's Bird Conservation Strategy 2023-2032: the new 10-year plan to stop the extinction crisis and put native birds on the path to recovery".

Other speakers will include:

Rob Dunn, BirdLife Shoalhaven President - "The BirdLife Shoalhaven Bushfire Recovery Project: what has been learnt about the recovery of birds since the 2019-20 black summer fires after two years of extensive bird surveys."

Judy Harrington, BirdLife Southern NSW - "The EagleCAM project “Secrets Revealed: a few things we have learned from this project.

Lunch and morning tea/coffee will be provided free of charge.

If you have any queries or would like to make a presentation on one of your own bird club's projects, please contact Judy Harrington on judyharrington60@gmail.com.
