Birds of the Leschenault Estuary
Event description
Interested in the birdlife on our doorstep? Join Birdlife Bunbury for one of two guided bird walks on the Leschenault Estuary and discover the huge variety of wonderful birds who call the estuary their home.
Learn how to identify bird species by sight and sound and practice spotting birds and using binoculars!
The sandflats and mangroves of the estuary are food source for migratory waders and sea birds. There are patches throughout with heath and sedges for ground dwelling and lower storey birds. Much of our native vegetation provides nectar for middle storey birds, and there are also many spots where birds of the ‘open space’ can be observed.
Remember sandflies and mosquitos are also a natural part of this environment, so please dress appropriately for your own protection.
Bring along a pair of binoculars if you have them! Birdlife Bunbury will be hosting two bird walks, please select tickets carefully to let us know which time you would like to attend as places are limited.
This event will have a photographer in attendance that will produce photos that may be used for promotional purposes.
Please meet us at the large tree indicated on the map at the beginning of your walk.
This event is part of the Leschenault Estuary Connect Program, made possible through generous funding support from Lotterywest, helping to build a better WA together, and Water Corporation. Further funding support has been provided through Healthy Estuaries WA – a State Government program that aims to improve the health of our south west estuaries.
