Become a Birrarung Pollution Detective

Ever wondered what happens when pollution enters the Birrarung? Join EPA Victoria and the City of Melbourne for a hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience exploring how pollution is detected, monitored and prevented.

Perfect for curious minds of all ages, this interactive event gives you the chance to meet the experts, explore the EPA Pollution Response Vehicle, and get hands-on with the tools used to investigate and protect our waterways.

Activities include:

  • Following pollution on an interactive street-to-river drain chase

  • Testing water quality using real field equipment

  • Exploring the EPA Pollution Response Vehicle

  • Learning how pollution incidents are reported, investigated and managed

  • Discovering simple actions you can take to help keep the Birrarung clean

You'll also learn about the Swimmable Birrarung Project and the collective effort to create a future where the Birrarung is healthy enough for people and wildlife to enjoy.

Whether you're passionate about the environment or simply looking for a fun and educational family activity, this is a unique opportunity to see how science, community and action come together to protect our iconic river.

This event is proudly hosted by EPA Victoria, in partnership with the City of Melbourne.
