Event description

BlackInk, based in Meanjin (so-called Brisbane), is a BIPOC-centered open mic space dedicated to uplifting and celebrating Black artists. Over the past year, we’ve created a community hub where artists can gather, share, and grow in a space that prioritises open discussion and fosters meaningful connections.

Each BlackInk event has featured a unique theme and dress code, inviting everyone to step out in style and engage with new faces beyond familiar circles. We’ve shared memorable moments with incredible performances, shared meals, day parties, and, most importantly, a new home for open mic nights.

While Harmony Day has always aimed to celebrate multiculturalism and diversity in Australia, many argue that it does not provide enough space for difficult conversations around racial discrimination or the time to celebrate intersectionality truly. Join us at our Harmony Day Done Right event, where we endeavour to go beyond the surface of the celebration. We encourage everyone to dress in cultural attire and bring something from their culture, whether it be a dish, a song, or a film recommendation.

This event's raffle has been generously donated by the incredible Aidan Rowlingson. The art piece Bigface is worth $150. Aidan Rowlingson is a proud Butchella & Kabi Kabi artist and producer. Make sure to check out his work @aidanrowlingson.

We will be donating to Focus Congo as part of Black Ink's commitment to fundraising. Please visit our donation section for this event for more details.

Dress code: cultural wear

Question of the night: how much of your culture have you had to leave at the door to fit in?

What to bring: a dress with the story of home, a song you grew up hearing, or anything that has the link between your culture and your story

We hope to see you there!
