Event description

Come along for a fun and creative day with plenty of inspiration to help you during your block printing workshop.

Wooden block printing is a centuries-old art form that dates back to ancient times, with its origins rooted in India and China. This traditional technique involves carving intricate patterns into wooden blocks, which are then dipped in dye and stamped onto fabric to create beautiful designs. In India, various regional styles such as Kalamkari, Ajrakh, and Bagru each tell unique stories through their motifs. We will be exploring the Kalamkari style in this workshop. The word Kalamkari trasnalstes to Kalam is pen and kari meaning art.

Wooden block printing in Indian culture has always been more than just decorative; it serves as a medium for storytelling. Each piece of fabric narrates a part of history, culture, or folklore, passed down through generations like songs or tales woven into the very threads.
