Grab a mate and join us at Welcome to Thornbury for an afternoon of hairstyling, laughs and connecting with other dads!
Blokes & Braids brings dads and father figures together for a relaxed afternoon of learning some handy hairstyling skills, having a laugh and enjoying some good company.
We'll have a facilitator on hand to take you through the basics and help you practise a range of easy hairstyles, so you can build your skills and confidence for the next school morning, dance concert or "Dad, can you do my hair?" moment.
No experience needed and absolutely no pressure to be good at it!

Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the venue, and you're very welcome to stick around afterwards and enjoy everything Welcome to Thornbury has to offer.
Tickets are $35 per person. Ticket sales help cover the costs of running the event, with proceeds supporting Parent Thread, a non-profit creating opportunities for parents to connect and build community.

Please note: This is a dads and father figures-only event. Children do not attend.

- Do I need to know how to braid hair?
Not at all! This event is designed for beginners, so whether you've never attempted a ponytail or already know a few tricks, you're welcome. We'll guide you through everything step by step.
- Do I need to bring anything?
Nope! We'll provide the mannequin heads, brushes, hair ties and everything else you need to practise.
- Can I bring my kids?
This one is just for dads and father figures! It's a chance to enjoy some time for yourself, learn something new and connect with other dads. We'll be practising on mannequin heads, so there's no need to bring your little ones.
- Can I come on my own?
Absolutely! Lots of dads come along on their own. The afternoon is relaxed and welcoming, and it's a great opportunity to meet other local dads.
- What hairstyles will we learn?
We'll cover practical everyday hairstyles, from ponytails and simple braids to a few more advanced techniques. Our facilitator and volunteers will be there to help you practise and answer questions.
- Is food or drink included in my ticket?
Food and drinks aren't included, but you'll be able to purchase them at the venue. You're also welcome to stick around afterwards!
- What does my ticket include?
Your $35 ticket includes a facilitated hairstyling session, all the equipment and materials you'll need, and the chance to connect with other dads in a relaxed setting. Ticket sales also help support Parent Thread's community connection initiatives.
- What if I can't afford a ticket?
We want Blokes & Braids to be accessible to everyone. If the ticket price is a barrier, please get in touch with Parent Thread and we'll do our best to help.
