BloodRiverRootTree: A Visionary Immersive Experience in Music, Animation, and Space,
The Norla Dome at the Mission to Seafarers Victoria
Docklands VIC, Australia
Event description
Composed site-specifically for Melbourne’s unique Norla Dome, this premiere of BloodRiverRootTree is a collaboration between Noemi Liba Friedman (Composer, Libretto & Project Conceptualisation) and Yehonatan Koenig (Motion Art Direction).
Performed in the round by some of Melbourne’s most innovative and refined instrumentalists and voices, the work is a passionate meditation on biological unity, fractal theory, and organic time, drawing inspiration from the great composer Iannis Xenakis, particularly his arborescence period.
The animations in BloodRiverRootTree, created by Koenig in collaboration with Sophie Deka, extend directly from his works on paper—translated into moving form and made responsive to the music in real time.
The work is also scheduled for a Sydney premiere in 2026, with Berlin and Montreal to follow.
