Blueprints with Sunlight: A Cyanotype Print Making Workshop
Description
Cyanotype Printmaking Workshop: Make Your Own Sun Prints, Vic Park
Make blue-and-white art using nothing but sunlight.
Cyanotype is one of the oldest and most magical printing processes: lay leaves, flowers or your own hand-drawn design on treated paper, expose it to the sun, rinse it in water, and watch it turn a deep Prussian blue. No experience needed.
In this relaxed two-hour workshop with local artist Luvieur, you’ll make two A5 prints to take home: one from found objects and one from a design you draw yourself.
What you’ll do
Learn how cyanotype works, and how to get crisp, high-contrast prints
Arrange leaves and natural objects into a print
Draw your own design to turn into a print
Expose your prints in the sun and rinse them in water
Take home two A5 prints. They’ll still be slightly damp, and will deepen in colour over the next 24 hours
Choose your session
Saturday 21 November, 10AM-12PM
Sunday 22 November, 10AM-12PM
Both sessions run the same workshop. Places are limited to 16 per session.
Good to know
All materials are provided, including paper, gloves and aprons
No experience needed. This workshop is suitable for beginners aged 15+ (as a guide)
Bring a few of your own leaves or flowers if you’d like, though plenty will be provided from the Baillie Hill grounds keeper
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy, and bring a bag or folder for carrying your damp prints home
The workshop runs outdoors, so it’s best to bring sun protection. In case of cloud, we’ll use a UV lamp to expose the prints
Where
