Blurring the boundaries - Interpreting Stone in Cloth and Paper with Collage, Assemblage & Stitch

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

This workshop is run in a masterclass format. Participants will be encouraged to explore the concept of walls through free play with and experimentation with mixed media techniques on cloth and paper grounds to create 2D & 3D works.

What is a wall?  A wall can be real or metaphorical. A wall may create a jail or a haven.  A wall can protect and shelter.  A wall can isolate.  You get the drift.   How many of you have created a wall of self-limiting beliefs?   Who has said - I can’t do that!  I’m not good enough! I don’t have the skills!    Now is the time to jump over that wall and join Donna in this workshop.

Donna will demonstrate making grounds in various formats using PVA, vliesofix, paint, walnut inks, cloth and paper.  Use these grounds  for collage  (fabric and papers), hand stitch into or draw onto them.  Add more texture with papers, fabric paint, stitch.  Create structures with your grounds.  Create pages for a book or a book cover if you wish.   However, the whole point of this weekend is to explore and deep dive into a mixed media technique or two and take away some new skills and ideas to further build your creative practice.

Is there something you have been itching to try?  This may be just the opportunity.   Please contact Donna and let her know.  If it is possible Donna will help you explore it.

This workshop is facilitated by Donna in conjunction with the exhibition at HR Gallop Gallery which includes Donna’s works in response to an artist’s residency in Oatlands, Tasmania in 2022.  Oatlands is a village full of historic sandstone buildings.

A light lunch of soup, bread rollss and fruit provided.  A minimum 6 participants is required for this workshop to proceed.

All basic materials supplied.  Some additional speciality materials available on the weekend at cost.   Feel free to bring materials from your own supplies to work woth.
