Body Choir (Contact Improv Dance Performance Troupe) at Woodford Folk Festival 25/26

This is the second year our CI dance troupe-Body Choir- will be performing at Woodford Folk Festival. Our task is to simply dance CI in public, sharing the joy of the dance, being seen and letting people know when they can dance during and after the festival.

We stay true to the practice of CI in a challenging environment, and invite curious spectators into trying CI with us. Last year the process to become involved was very informal, with an organiser reaching out after my application to teach had been rejected and he wondered if it would work as street theatre (on an exciting side note, I was successful in my application to teach this year!).

It resulted in 11 tickets for Choir members. This year a more formal process yielded only 8 tickets- names hurriedly drawn from my veterans months ago; a lesson learnt regarding next year’s application, where I’d like to make a bid for at least 20 tickets.

So this year I’d like to demonstrate just how good the Choir can be at those larger numbers, and so we’re fundraising to provide tickets for others to join us.

I’m paying forward the roughly $1000 combined value of my ticket and teaching fee, which will go towards subsidising the tickets of our additional dancers.

The Body Choir serves as a catalyst for more dancers and dancing, and between it and my class/jam offering, Woodford now offers about 14 hours of CI dance opportunity over the 6 days.

The more the merrier; the more impactful the Choir and the better our chances of returning next year.
