Body Mapping Workshop
Event description
Body Mapping captures the embodied nature of a person’s experiences and meanings to tell a story that depicts social, political, and economic processes. It enables reflexive thought that is unlikely to have been produced in a typical interview or focus group.
Body Mapping may be useful for practitioners and researchers who want to:
- Examine and appreciate how emotions, cultural norms or practices relate to (specific parts of) physical bodies or are embodied.Â
- Explore topics that people find difficult to express verbally.
- Build trust in groups. Â
This workshop will unpack various ways we can use Body Mapping while working with under-represented individuals and communities.Â
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:Â
- Understand the ethics and "Do No Harm" implications of body mappingÂ
- Understand the theory and usefulness of using body mapping as a participatory community activity.Â
- facilitate a body mapping activity with community membersÂ
Body Mapping’s emphasis on visual storytelling can be particularly useful for people who use alternative communication methods.
Each participant will receive a workbook with Body Mapping theory, facilitation guidance notes and reflective exercises when attending the Body Mapping workshop.
