Body Otherness & Depersonified Object-ification Workshop.
Event description
enormousface AKA Kalan will be leading a workshop drawing on his experience in performance art, puppetry, circus, and street performing.
We will explore uses and interpretations of the body outside an anthropocentric context of head-lead personhood, examining the norms and reification of different body parts and kinds: The Foot King; Butt-Puppets; Upside-Down-Land; Subject::Object; Non-Human [\Garbage]-Bodies.
Participants will attempt various physical and mental experiments to erode the ontological concepts of self, other, body, being, personhood, subject, object, and the human.
Workshop will include individual and group segments, with both traditional and bizarre exercises. Includes clothing-optional portions, aspects of Horror-Dance, Stillness, Unbeing. Elastic boundaries (of self & thought) recommended. Expertise in butoh, puppetry, philosophy, etc may be helpful, but should also be considered temporarily forgettable. All levels of experience welcome & most possibilities accommodated.
Participants should be prepared to move, touch and respond.
