    Event description

We invite you to join the Finlayson’s and the Rangelands Living Skin project team for a field day at Bokhara Plains! The day will focus on the importance of effective livestock management, livestock genetics that are suited to the environment and happy people to restore landscapes, boost profitability, and strengthen rangeland communities.

Enthusiastic positive people and effective livestock businesses will both be critical for regenerating landscapes, creating true profitability, and building strong communities in the Rangelands. The RLS project has focused on soil health, scientifically measuring outcomes and investigating practices that can increase ecological resilience. The Finlayson's also understand that it is critical to have productive animals that are suited our environments, and people who enjoy their roles in the rangelands, and the plan for the day is to encourage discussion and positive hope in the future. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be part of the conversation!

Key topics of the day will include:

    • Rangelands Living Skin Project key findings and paddock tour
      • An opportunity hear about the results of the project, to visit the trial sites and to look at landscape management and functional cattle
    • Importance of cattle genetics in rangelands
      • Kate Usmar from PCA Bulls will present on their operation, and how they develop and manage for grass-based efficiency that performs well in any environment. Bokhara have used their genetics for 4 years and will have bulls on display.
    • Productive sheep in rangelands
      • Richie Steele from Outback MPM will also present on their progressive forward-thinking sheep genetics program, that also produces functional, easy care and highly profitable rams bred in the western regions, but also adapted to all environments.
    • Panel session of young rangeland enthusiasts
      • The panel session will stimulate the discussion of ideas and opportunities that will encourage the next generation to be involved in the bright future we can have
