Event description
Book + Bottle x Tampa Bay Times: A Community Conversation on Domestic Violence
For more than a year, Tampa Bay Times reporter Lauren Peace has dug into one of the greatest — and often quietest — public health issues facing our community: domestic violence.
From misconceptions about what “counts” as abuse, to stigma affecting survivors, to the opaque systems that can be tricky to navigate (what happens after someone calls the police?!), join Lauren for a conversation about her reporting.
Zuleika "Zuly" Gonzalez, a survivor and advocate from CASA Pinellas, will be present to share local resources that can help people in the throes of a dangerous relationship.
Book + Bottle is holding this important conversation on Sunday, October 19. Doors open at 7pm, and the discussion will go from 7:30pm-8:30pm.
You can read selections of Lauren’s work here and here, or stop by our shop to check out physical copies now through the 19th.
RSVPs are free but required for entry.
Book + Bottle will be closed to the public to cultivate a safe environment for this sensitive topic. All are welcome to participate, but we reserve the right to ask anyone to leave at any time.
Our full bar will be open to purchase wine, beer, coffee, tea, and snacks during the discussion.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and Book + Bottle encourages donations to CASA all month long. You can donate here: www.casapinellas.org/donate or through posted signage in the shop.
