We're excited to welcome award-winning author Kim Ulrick back to The Book Cow for the launch of the second instalment in the Bad crime series, Bad People. This event will be hosted with award-winning Canberra writer and editor Sharon Phillips.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Bad People is a classic struggle between organised crime and law enforcement, which follows the protagonist and female main character, Laura Murray, as she forges a career as a canine handler with the New South Wales Police on a special taskforce investigating a spate of missing young women across the state.

Laura’s dreams are haunted by the dead serial killer she helped to put behind bars more than five years ago. Amidst the chaos of a high-profile police investigation, Laura finds love, but with a traitor in their midst, she doesn’t know who to trust.

PRAISE FOR BAD PEOPLE

Tracey Lee, author of the Lily O’Hara mystery series and The Aphorism Club, described Bad People as ‘…a gritty and at times brutal view of the criminal underworld. It’s scary. But it’s also a story of tenacity, hope and the investigative strength of law enforcement. Kim Ulrick will keep you on the edge of your seat as she cleverly builds to a crescendo of twists and turns.’

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kim Ulrick is an Australian crime and mystery author from Tuross Head, a tiny town on the far south coast of New South Wales. In her first book, Bad Country, Kim showcased her talent for crafting chilling, authentic stories set against the natural beauty and eeriness of the Australian bush. Bad People is the sequel to Bad Country and the second instalment in the Bad crime series.

In 2024, Kim was awarded the Banjo Paterson Prize for her short story, Shame the Stars, and some of her short stories have been published internationally. Kim is a member of the Eurobodalla Writers, ACT Writers (Marion), and Queensland Writers.

Before becoming an author, Kim spent 30 years in the Australian Public Service, working with law enforcement agencies and national policy departments. Kim has a bachelor’s degree in communication, majoring in journalism, and early in her career, worked for a national daily newspaper.

Kim’s stories are inspired by her life experiences. When she’s not writing, she can be found hacking up the golf course, enjoying good wine, and walking on the beach with her family and her beloved Kelpie.
