Join us at ANU Law School for the launch of Deeper Strategic Collaboration in the Securities Sector: India and Australia. Authored by Dr Sonia Khosa from the University of Sydney, this book explores how India and Australia can collaborate to strengthen financial regulation, comparing the roles of SEBI and ASIC within the framework of international securities standards. Offering a roadmap for cross-border cooperation and market integrity, it provides valuable insights for policymakers and scholars alike.

Mr Gopal Baglay, the High Commissioner of India to Australia, will reflect on on India–Aus academic & cultural links adn speak about the importance of the book. Mr Gopal Baglay has served as India’s High Commissioner to Australia since January 2024. A seasoned diplomat, he was previously High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and has held key roles in the Ministry of External Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office. He is passionate about yoga, hiking, and cross-cultural learning.

Dr Sonia Khosa is an Interdisciplinary Lecturer at the University of Sydney, based in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Her work focuses on enterprise education and the intersection of law, finance, and regulation, with a particular interest in India–Australia financial collaboration. Before joining academia, she served as Assistant General Manager (Law) at the Securities and Exchange Board of India, where she worked on legal policy, enforcement, and international regulatory engagement. She has represented SEBI and India at global bilateral and multilateral regulatory dialogues including in America, Europe and Africa.

Shri Pradeep Ramakrishnan is Executive Director at the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), where he oversees Capital Markets, Sustainable Finance, and the Metals and Commodities Department. With over 27 years of experience, including two decades at SEBI, he has led key initiatives in corporate governance, debt and hybrid securities, and sustainable finance. A commerce graduate and qualified Company Secretary, he brings deep expertise in financial regulation and market development.

Arjun Prasad is General Manager at the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), GIFT City, where he oversees the Primary Markets Division and has contributed to policy development on listing and capital market regulations. He has over 12 years of prior experience with SEBI, handling investigations, international affairs, takeovers, buy-backs, and delistings. Arjun holds an MBA from IIM Indore and a B. Tech from IIT Madras.

Shri Sunil J. Kadam: Shri Sunil J. Kadam, Executive Director, SEBI oversees key areas including Investor Assistance and Education, Economic and Policy Analysis, the Board Cell, Right To Information & Parliamentary Questions Cell, and matters relating to National Institute of Securities Management (NISM). Since joining SEBI in 1996, he has held diverse leadership roles across surveillance, investigations, market regulation, corporation finance, and regional administration, including Regional Director of SEBI’s Northern Regional Office, New Delhi. He has worked extensively on forensic accounting, Indian Depository Receipts (IDRs), e-voting, business responsibility reporting, and major legal proceedings, and has contributed to important committees such as SEBI Committee on Disclosures and Accounting Standards (SCODA) and OECD’s work on related-party transactions. Shri Kadam holds an MBA from the University of Pune and a postgraduate qualification in Securities Law from Government Law College, Mumbai.

Dr Prabhas Rath: Dr Prabhas Kumar Rath is a Chief General Manager in SEBI’s Department of Economic and Policy Analysis, with over two decades of capital-market experience, including a decade in the Office of the Chairman. He leads SEBI’s work on systemic risks and inter-regulatory issues and represents the regulator on IOSCO’s Emerging Risk Committee. Under his leadership, SEBI’s Systemic Risk Group has produced widely cited studies on equity derivatives, intraday trading and IPO behaviour. He also drives major market-wide data standardization and fintech initiatives and holds a PhD in Financial Market Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, along with international research experience at Japan’s FSA.

Associate Professor Akshaya Kamalnath (moderator), ANU Law School. Akshaya Kamalnath's research and teaching areas are corporate law, corporate governance, and corporate insolvency law. She has published on areas such as diversity within corporations, corporate social responsibility, AI and corporate governance, and equity crowdfunding regulation. Kamalnath has also worked as a Lecturer at AUT Law School in Auckland and Deakin Law School in Melbourne. Prior to joining academia, she worked in a leading law firm in India.

The launch will be conlcuded by Gail Pearson, who is a distinguished scholar in financial services commercial and consumer law. She played a key role in advancing policy and served on national and international committees including advisory committees to government agencies. She has maintained long- standing academic and professional linkages with India. The 5th edition of Pearson et al Commercial Law Commentary and Materials will be published in 2026.
