    Event description

Please join us and Chief Justice Stephen Gageler AC in celebrating the 10th edition of Statutory Interpretation in Australia (Lexis Nexis, 2024), the most cited text on Australian law.

For 50 years, courts, tribunals and legal practitioners have relied upon this text as their guide to the intricacies of statutory interpretation. Written by the ANU College of Law’s own Emeritus Professor Dennis Pearce, this book is one of the most significant and enduing publications to have come from the ANU College of Law. Legislation is now the primary source of law in Australia. Nearly all legal transactions require attention to be given to Acts and other legislative instruments. An understanding of how legislation is to be interpreted is, thus, an essential part of every lawyer’s skill set: and Statutory Interpretation in Australia is the star that shines a guiding light on this path.

We celebrate Dennis Pearce’s momentous achievement, and also celebrate the appointment of ANU Law alumnus Stephen Gageler AC as Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, who will launch the book.
