Event description

Elgar’s Concise Encyclopedia of Polar Law offers authoritative entries on legal issues in the Arctic and Antarctic regions—from sovereignty to indigenous rights, environment to governance. Join us at the book launch to explore how polar law is shaping policy in a changing world and connect with leading scholars and practitioners in the field.

The book launch will be chaired by Professor Donald Rothwell FAAL. Professor Donald Rothwell is a leading scholar of public international law at ANU Law School, specialising in the law of the sea and polar regions. He has authored or edited many major works, including The International Law of the Sea, and holds membership of the Centre for International and Public Law at ANU.

Professor Richard Rowe PSM will launch the book and be in conversation with Professor Rothwell. Professor Richard Rowe PSM is a former senior officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Among other roles, he was the Department’s Senior Legal Adviser and was the Head of the Australian Delegation to Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings. He chaired the Consultative Meeting held in Hobart in 2012 and maintains an active interest in Antarctic issues. He is an Honorary Professor in the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy.
