Book launch for 'What Is Happening to Religion in Australia? Understanding the Trends'
Event description
Launch of โWhat Is Happening to Religion in Australia? Understanding the Trendsโ
By Philip Hughes.
Anecdotal experience and statistics from the census and surveys indicate clearly that identification with religion is in decline in Australia. This book analyses the trends and, drawing on international scholarship, provides a social explanation of what is happening. It looks at the role of immigration in slowing the patterns of change and the different rates that progressive and conservative churches are changing. It suggests ways in which people of faith and churches may respond to these trends.
Prof Andrew Singleton, a leading sociologist of religion, at Deakin University will be speaking, as will Dr Muriel Porter, a journalist and author of a number of books on religion in Australia.
The book is being published by Coventry Press.
