Book Launch Party for Love Letters, Every Day
with Lisa Burdige & John Hazard in conversation with Brad Parks

Join us for brunch, books, and banter as we celebrate the launch of Love Letters, Every Day, the first collection of Background Noise Comics. Books will be signed. Lisa and John will perform select comics. Kickstarter rewards will be available for pickup. Books will also be available for purchase.

Co-sponsored by Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers.

About the book
Welcome to the quirky world of Lisa and John. Love Letters, Every Day is a heartwarming collection of slice-of-life comics about being a creative couple while raising teens in the Brooklyn liberal bubble. You’ll find relatable comics about depression, eating issues, and anxiety. Enjoy quirky tales of chatty cats, kvetchy ghosts, and an unhinged POTUS squirrel. But at their core, these comics are love letters John and Lisa wrote to each other every day. If you have a taste for chocolate kiss-sized bites of love and laughter, this collection is for you.

  • Based on the Ringo Award-nominated Background Noise Comic.

  • Features 200+ comics and essays on what it took to make a comic every day for a whole year.

Early Praise for Love Letters, Every Day

Lisa and John invite us into the quiet, hilarious, complicated space on their couch, between their laptops. If you've ever had a fight about what movie to watch, or held your partner’s hand while scrolling something devastating, you’ll find yourself in these pages.”

-Sophie Lucido Johnson, New Yorker cartoonist and author/illustrator of Kin

"Background Noise is a perfect comic in an imperfect world—funny, heartfelt, and occasionally metaphysical. There’s real wisdom in these panels."

- Drew Edwards, writer/creator of Halloween Man, Lucy Chaplin: Science Starlet, and The Matron

“Filled with humor, tenderness, and the messiness of building a life together, Love Letters, Every Day reminds us that the beauty of love is found in everyday moments. A must read!”

- Sara Gómez Woolley, award-winning illustrator of Pirate Queen and writer/creator of Esperancita's mostly true memoir.

"Lisa and John have invited us into their lives in such an intimate and relatable way that the reading experience morphs from voyeuristic to deeply relatable as they expound on myriad facets of life.”

- Bob Fiingerman, Eisner-nominated cartoonist and author/illustrator of Minimum Wage

“Sweet and wry humor.”

-Karen Green, Curator for comics and cartoons at Columbia University

About Lisa and John
Lisa Burdige and John Hazard, partners in love and art, are the co-creators of the Ringo Award-nominated Background Noise Comic, which boasts nearly 25,000 followers on Instagram.

Independently, Lisa is an award-winning writer whose stories, plays, poetry, and essays have been published in anthologies and magazines. She’s a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, Women in Comics Collective, and Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers. When she’s not creating art herself, she’s helping others realize their artistic goals as a Creative Coach.

John is an award-winning comic artist, children’s book illustrator, animator, and arts educator. He spent more than a decade at Nickelodeon, where he worked on character design and animation for online and on-air projects. Over the years, he’s taught at the Kubert School, the Highlights Foundation (with Lisa), and Pratt Institute. His other comic strips include Frankenstein Superstar and Shmooze or Loose.

While their life is not a fairy tale, they are living happily ever after in Brooklyn.

About Brad
Bradley Robert Parks lives and writes in Brooklyn, NY, where he founded the Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers (BSFWriters.com) and helped start the Kaleidocast podcast (kaleidocast.nyc). He found his passion for writing while growing up in a family of genre readers. While he's been pursuing writing for a while, the crazy energy of New York City and the incredible talent attracted by BSFW have given him the focus and motivation to finally get published. His fiction has appeared on BuzzyMag.com, in the Queer Sci-Fi flash fiction anthologies Ink and Impact, and in the Kaleidocast podcast, where he is also (full disclosure) a host and editor. Along with these achievements, he's obtained one husband, Michael, and two cats, Mr. Darcy and Miss Georgie. Keep up with his exploits at BradleyRobertParks.com.
