ABOUT THE BOOK

From one of Australia’s most loved rural storytellers comes The Featherwood Beekeeper - a moving novel about finding family, rebuilding trust and discovering that healing often begins where we least expect it.

Eighteen-year-old Birdie Vaughn arrives in the rural community of Featherwood searching for the brother she lost in foster care twelve years ago. With only a campervan, determination and two birthday cards to guide her, she is determined to find the family she remembers.

Meanwhile, bee scientist Dr Natasha Yarrington is investigating why an isolated beekeeper’s hives have survived when others have failed. Her search leads her to Hidden Valley and Isaac Stevens, a former doctor living in isolation after devastating loss. As Birdie searches for her brother and Natasha questions the life she thought she wanted, their paths converge in a community that changes them both.

Drawing on her experience as a rural midwife, Fiona McArthur brings authenticity to a story of resilience, belonging and second chances. Rich with rural Australian life, beekeeping and environmental themes, The Featherwood Beekeeper explores the families we inherit and choose, and the courage it takes to trust again.

A heartfelt celebration of hope, community and the unexpected ways ordinary people change each other’s lives.
