Book Launch: The Psychology of Place, Edited by Iain Butterworth PhD
Description
The Australian Fulbright Alumni Association invites you to a civic and cultural event to mark the international launch of The Psychology of Place: Rebuilding Sense of Place in a Post-Colonial World (Cambridge University Press).
The Psychology of Place provides platform for dialogue at the intersection of Indigenous perspectives on Country and psychology, liveability, climate change, architecture, urban design, and wellbeing.
The event brings together guests across First Nations leadership, academia, design, public policy, and civic sectors. The launch has been designed as a curated, participatory forum rather than a conventional lecture-style event. Knowledge Circles (or Yarning Circles) will provide a culturally grounded format for dialogue, reflection, and shared learning, consistent with First Nations approaches to knowledge exchange.
The event will enable participants to:
Engage with the book’s central framing of place as psychological, cultural, and relational.
Foreground First Nations perspectives on Country, custodianship, and wellbeing.
Explore links between place, liveability, design, and population health.
Participate in Knowledge Circles grounded in First Nations principles of shared learning.
• Opening plenary conversation
• Knowledge Circles facilitated by contributors
• Closing reflections
• Informal reception / refreshments
