About the book:

The incredible story of young Peter Bol, who migrated with his family from Sudan to Australia and went on to become the first Australian in 53 years to reach the 800 metre Olympic Games final.

The perfect sports picture book to inspire young readers to dream their own big dreams, celebrate the joy of athletic achievement and encourage kids to find their own path. I trained and trained and trained.

I began to dream about the biggest competition in the world. I dreamed I was running at the Olympic Games wearing the green and gold.

When Peter Bol and his family fled Sudan for Egypt, they never imagined they would settle in Australia. But after they arrived, Peter discovered the joy of running, and began to dream about running on the biggest stage of the world - the Olympic Games. He was a little kid with a big dream - and sometimes dreams really do come true.

Sudanese-Australian Peter Bol won over the hearts of the nation on the track in front of an empty stadium at the Olympics. Now, with a full heart he is delighted to share his childhood journey, beautifully brought to life on the page by Louie Joyce.

About the author:

Nagmeldin 'Peter' Bol was born in Sudan, with his family fleeing the civil war when he was four years old. The Bol family emigrated to Egypt, before immigrating to Australia. Initially arriving in Toowoomba, the family then moved to Perth. After unexpectedly embarking on an athletics career at 17, Peter went to his first of three Olympics in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. In 2021, at the Tokyo Olympics, Peter became the first Australian in 53 years to qualify for the Men's 800m Final. He loves sharing his journey and inspiring kids to dream big and follow their heart.
