In Conversation with James Franklin: Uncovering the Necessities Behind Reality

Join us for the official launch of The Necessities Underlying Reality by acclaimed philosopher and mathematician James Franklin. All welcome!

What are the structures that hold our world together? In his latest work, James Franklin argues that there are "necessary truths"—in mathematics, logic, and ethics—that exist independently of human thought or physical laws they form an absolutely necessary scaffolding of reality that is not up for negotiation.

We are honored to welcome Professor Peter Anstey (Australian Catholic University), a leading expert in early modern philosophy and the history of ideas, to join James for an in-depth conversation. Together, they will explore the book’s provocative claims and what they mean for our understanding of reality, science, and morality.

About the Speakers:

• James Franklin is a philosopher, mathematician, and historian. Known for his work on the philosophy of mathematics, probability and the foundations of ethics, his work bridges the gap between hard science and human ethics.

• Peter Anstey is a Professor of Philosophy at ACU and a leading international scholar on seventeenth century philosophy. He is Director of the ACU Western Civilisation Program.
