Join us at Harry Hartog for our second Bookclub meeting, set to happen October 29th!
About the Book
For this month we are reading Butter by Asako Yuzuki. It follows a journalist Rika Machida as she attempts to interview serial murderer and former chef Manako Kajii. Kajii refuses to talk to anyone, including the press, until Machida contacts her asking about her recipe for beef stew. As their talks continue, Machida begins to learn more about the steely Kajii and herself. Inspired by the real case of the "Konkatsu Killer," Butter is a vivid exploration of misogyny, obsession, and the transgressive nature of food in Japan.
