The free webinar explores the ways Words Make Worlds - by examining the use of the term Boomer. The webinar has two parts:
Part one: 3-4pm: Boomer Blaming
Dr Catherine Barrett presents findings from Citizen Research on Boomer Blaming to clarify the inaccuracies and harm associated with this form of intergenerational buck passing.
Strategies for protection against Boomer Shaming are outlined as protection against internalised gerontism (the form of ageism experienced by older people).
Part two: 4-5pm: Boomers - Patterns of Language Use
Linguist Professor Kate Burridge will outline corpus linguistics, or online research on how the term 'Boomer' is used in the real life written and spoken language.
