    Event description

Launching the second incarnation of Australia's first all Brazilian repertoire Choir here in Melbourne this Spring. BORBOLETA PRETA (Black Butterfly) is a lively group of culture & travel-loving singers and musicians who love to learn and share musica brasileira. A diverse and groove-based repertoire will be featured in their inaugural concert.

SATURDAY 14th SEPTEMBER at Armadale Baptist ARTS HUB

    Doors from 3PM

3:30 PM - Diana and Doug de Vries open with a Bossa nova/Samba duo set rich in soul.
DnD have played Guitar & Voice together since 1997, launching Brazilian Jazz Albums 'A knot in the wood' in 2002 & 'Three Shadows of Blue' 2004 to great acclaim. They went onto establish Borboleta in 2004, publishing a Brazilian songbook for Choirs & Vocal Groups in 2008.

Short interval with Brazilian snacks available

4:30 PM - 20+ voices of Borboleta Preta - present samba, folk and baião music of Brazil - with Doug de Vries (7-string Guitar), Josh Bridges (Cavaquinho/percussion/voice), Catrina Seiffert (Piano/perc/voice) & Kai Zalmon (percussion)

Borboleta Preta was born in hard lockdown when Di (Melb) & Mila (Rio) ran Virtual Brazilian choir Lab 'Braz Oz' from 2021-2023 - on the first day we met to sing live after lockdown we were surrounded by black butterflies (with small white polka dots) and Mila in Rio was also surrounded by them in the same week - a sign! Borboleta was re-born. This new/renewed choir has voices from Borboleta and lots of newer recruits who've been singing Brazilian music for years in the closet & beyond...

We are taking new members - come and feel the vibe and see if this is the choir you've been looking for!
