Botanical Art Class with Gilbert RM Dashorst

Murray River National Park covers more than 14,000 hectares of land comprising a vast net­work of wet­lands, flood­plains and creeks. Immerse yourself in this unique, natural landscape through illustration with one of Australia's leading botanical Artists.

Botanical Illustrator Gilbert RM Dashorst CF has years of experience creating detailed illustrations of the world around him and passing on his knowledge as a teacher. Gilbert was the Scientific, Botanical Illustrator at the State Herbarium for 30 years, illustrating plants for scientific publications, State, National and Overseas. One of his many Illustrated books was 'The Plants of the Adelaide Plains and Hills'.

Using pencils, you can choose to draw either a plant, a view of the park or an interesting object you might find, such as a curled leaf or textured rock. Under Gilbert’s guidance, and in the calming surrounds of this popular National Park, you will produce a piece of artwork to be proud of.

This event is for all ages and experience levels. Materials will be provided at the event for you to use, including paper, pencils, and a drawing board. Feel free to bring anything else you may want.

WHAT TO BRING

Please check ahead for the weather and dress accordingly. Things to bring include:

• A stool or rug to sit on (if required)

• Hat and sunscreen

• Drinking water and snacks

• Personal medication

• Insect repellent

• Other equipment you want to use

LOCATION

Please note: event location is Lock 4 day visitor area which is located downstream of Lock 4 - marked with a red circle on the map below. Access from Berri is via Draper Road and Lock 4 Road on Google maps (please note the road names are not signposted in the Park).

The event will be set up at the far end of the day visitor area, near the toilets.

Please note that there are no toilet facilities in this location, they are located a 3-minutes-drive away in Berri.
