Botanical printing - a beginners journey in natural dyeing
Description
Join a small group of like minded creatives for this practical workshop in natural dyeing and eco print to dye your own silk scarf and more. You will learn how to use various seasonal plants to create unique colours and prints on natural textiles. During this workshop you will prepare your fabrics for dyeing with a mordant, choose suitable dye plants with a tikanga approach, design your leaf patterns, wrap a dye bundle and lots more tips and tricks.
A blank silk scarf is provided plus all equipment, tutoring and morning tea.
Participants are required to bring:
A second small fabric item to dye, such as a tea towel, pillowslip or t-shirt. In the spirit of sustainability, perhaps try sourcing these second hand. Wash and dry these before the workshop. Cotton, linen or wool only, NO POLYESTER as it will not take up the dyes.
A varied selection of leaves, petals or seeds from your garden or from a place significant to you.
Please BYO lunch. Fridge space/utensils will be available.
Rubber gloves and a notebook or camera to document as you learn is optional.
