Event description

Join a small group of like minded creatives for this full day practical workshop in natural dyeing and eco print, also known as botanical contact printing. You will learn how to use various seasonal plants to create unique colours and prints on natural textiles. During this workshop you will prepare your fabrics for dyeing with a mordant, choose suitable dye plants with a tikanga approach, design your leaf patterns, wrap a dye bundle and lots more tips and tricks.

Participants are required to bring:

  1. 1 or 2 white cotton or linen pillow slips to dye. In the spirit of sustainability, perhaps try sourcing these second hand. Wash and dry these before the workshop. Please absolutely NO POLYESTER - not even a poly-cotton blend as it will not take up the dyes.
  2. A varied selection of leaves, petals or seeds from your garden or from a place significant to you. Avoid bringing grasses or harakeke.
  3. Please BYO lunch. Fridge space will be available to you.
  4. Rubber gloves and a notebook or camera to document as you learn is optional.
  5. Materials, dyes, tutoring and morning tea is included.
