Braided Rivers Seminar 2025
Event description
New Zealand’s braided rivers are networks of ever-changing channels weaving between islands of gravels. They are home to an extraordinary diversity of birds, fish, invertebrates and plants that have adapted to live in this challenging and dynamic environment. Having evolved to live here, they depend on braided rivers for their survival. But they are increasingly under threat. Some are on the verge of extinction and may vanish forever if nothing is done to protect what remains.
There is also good news. Over the past several years, work has been done to enhance breeding habitats, and the population of some species has increased, others are still declining.
The annual Braided Rivers Seminar is for professionals, volunteers, land owners, students, educators, and the general public to learn what's happening to protect and restore these globally rare ecosystems and to discuss what's happening in this sector.
The $49 cost to attend the seminar is all inclusive, with lunch, morning and afternoon teas.
