Brain Theme Workshop
Description
The Quantum Brain Toolbox
The “Quantum Brain Toolbox” workshop is designed to introduce a new generation of experimental approaches at the intersection of quantum science and neuroscience. This workshop will explore how emerging quantum methods can be harnessed to observe, manipulate, and better understand neural systems across scales from single molecules to complex networks.
Participants will be introduced with key technologies, including optical tweezers, magnetometry techniques, NV diamonds, upconverting nanoparticles and others. Together, these tools form a versatile “toolbox” that opens new experimental possibilities, particularly in contexts where non-invasive, high-resolution measurements are critical.
Beyond technical overviews, the workshop aims to identify real-world applications and emerging research directions in brain research and specifically how these tools can be applied in neuroscience, medicine, and bioengineering. By fostering dialogue between physicists, and biologists, the workshop seeks to catalyse interdisciplinary collaboration in specific projects and inspire innovative uses of quantum technologies in the study of the brain.
The workshop will feature practical demonstrations and project planning.
Venue
The workshop will be held at The University of Queensland, St Leo's College, Boardroom (Building 36F)
