The Braves: Teen Rites of Passage 26-28 January 2024
Event description
A program created to help our teens, 14-17 years of age, on their quest to know a much fuller sense of their Unique Human Value Proposition and navigate a sense of belonging in this world.
Why?
We live in a world of ever increasing stress, disconnection and distraction.
Whilst technology has meant we have more opportunity to connect than ever before - rates of suicide, depression, anxiety, learning and behavioural challenges etc have never been higher in our teenage population.
We need to find a path to help our teens find a way back to themselves, to their sense of belonging, value and self-worth and to a healthy relationship with their rapidly changing body, mind and spirit.
The Braves Rite of Passage program is a critical stepping stone in the process for our teens to transition into adulthood in healthy, meaningful ways.
The Invitation
With guidance from our experienced Lead Facilitators, Kade and Kat (the founders of Wild Tribes), your teens journey is hosted at a private mountain retreat nestled amongst 40 acres of abundant bushland, secluded gardens and walking trails. These live and wild lands are situated in Awabakal and Darkinjung Country in the Watagan State Forest, 1.5 hours North of Sydney. The tranquility and beauty of these lands will leave you with a deep sense of awe & wonder, they truly are that unique.
The Braves is a specially crafted school holiday program to allow for teens to participate in a sacred Rite of Passage together. This program gives our Braves the opportunity to begin deeply exploring their relationship with their own internal landscapes and their connection to the more-than-human world; so they can come into healthy relationship with how they perceive themselves and how their everyday environment interacts with them.
This program is also the precursor Rites of Passage program designed to prepare them for the ancient initiation known since time immemorial as the "Vision Quest" (please see our Vision Quest events to learn more about this initiation into adulthood reserved for our 17yrs+ participants).
The Benefits for Your Teen in Attending the Brave Hearts program:
- Introduce our teens to a deeper connection with the natural world and support them in learning what it feels like to be 'held' by country with an emphasis on honouring our indigenous roots.
- Enable our teens to meet themselves and uncover their Unique Human Value Proposition. This build skills around Self-mastery, resilience and Self-awareness, learning to have confidence in their own abilities & life choices through facing challenge, change and carefully crafted mini-adventures into the unknown.
- Promote a healthy, heart centred relationship with respect and trust for their Elders (you as the parent), and how to see the value in and draw on their wisdom and experience. This includes developing an understanding around Indigenous culture, wisdom-making & planetary stewardship. Learning how they contribute to healthy social discourse, how to hold safe space for others in silent witness, healthy conflict resolution etc.
- Provide tools to navigate the waves of change associated with adolescence and strengthen their trust in their own internal guidance mechanisms to learn how to honour their sovereignty, step into the full power of their own agency as a contributing member of society and make healthy choices about the path they choose to walk through this phase of their life.
- Help our teens build strong bonds with their fellow Braves as they learn about the medicine of being part of a community - AKA teens helping teens.
- Feel the importance of having healthy support structures available to them in their lives (ie an introduction to peer support circles) and how to deepen their sense of belonging within a Tribe, what it means to be responsible for the 'more than me' and how to lean into and develop Collective Trust.
- And most importantly, remind them to have copious amounts of fun along the way - because they ain't adults yet!
We achieve this by:
- Providing a safe space free from hierarchy where all are equal; all tribes members seen and all voices heard
- Providing opportunities to participate in the warm hum of village life and in the caring / nurturing of their fellow Brave Hearts.
- Providing opportunities for group and individual process to explore their internal relationships with connection, resilience, trust, empathy, gratitude, courage, integrity and more
- Providing opportunities to adventure in the wild places and connect with a deep felt sense of awe and wonder
- Providing opportunities to participate in the ancient ways of ritual and sacred ceremony and experience deep connection with their internal landscapes and the more-than-human world
- Providing opportunities to be challenged and to experience sitting near their edges / triggers and how to perceive these as opportunities to learn about themselves - growing a sense of 'self' that can only come from meeting themselves in those moments
