Membership Policy
1. Purpose
This Membership Policy outlines the eligibility, rights, obligations, and benefits of membership in the Brazilian Community Association. It is intended to ensure a fair, transparent, and welcoming environment for all members, supporting the association’s mission to cultural preservation and support within the community.
2. Definitions
• Member: An individual or entity that has completed the application process, met the eligibility criteria, and has been accepted by the association as a member.
• Membership Fee: The annual fee paid by members to support the operational costs and activities of the association.
3. Membership Types
The association offers the following types of membership:
• Individual Membership: Open to individuals interested in supporting and participating in the association’s activities.
• Family Membership: Open to families who wish to join as a unit, including spouses, partners, and children under 18.
4. Eligibility
Membership is open to individuals that meet the following criteria:
• Support the mission and objectives of the Brazilian Community Association.
• Agree to abide by the association’s constitution, policies, and code of conduct.
• For Individual and Family Membership, members must be at least 18 years old (or have parental consent if under 18).
5. Application Process
1. Complete the purchase and provide contact details.
Membership fees are determined annually by the Board and are used to support the association’s activities. The current fees are:
• Individual Membership: $20
• Family Membership: $50
Fees are due upon application and must be renewed annually within 12 months of first joining.
7. Rights of Members
All members in good standing are entitled to:
• Attend general meetings and events organized by the association.
• Vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and other membership meetings.
• Stand for election to the Board (subject to eligibility and position requirements).
• Receive regular updates and communications from the association.
8. Responsibilities of Members
Members agree to:
• Uphold and support the mission, vision, and values of the association.
• Pay annual membership fees in a timely manner.
• Adhere to the association’s Code of Conduct.
• Actively participate in association activities and events, as able.
9. Termination of Membership
Membership may be terminated if a member:
• Voluntarily withdraws from the association by notifying the Membership Committee in writing.
• Fails to pay the annual membership fee within 90 days of the due date.
• Violates the association’s policies, code of conduct, or engages in behavior harmful to the association.
10. Code of Conduct
The association expects all members to:
• Respect other members, staff, and the wider community.
• Foster a safe and inclusive environment.
• Act ethically and responsibly in their interactions with others.
• Protect the association’s reputation and avoid conflicts of interest.
11. Confidentiality and Privacy
The association is committed to respecting members’ privacy and protecting their personal information. All membership information is confidential and will be used solely for association purposes.
12. Amendments to the Membership Policy
This policy will be reviewed annually and may be amended by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. Members will be notified of any changes via the association’s website or email.
