3.5 Hour workshop with a break for light lunch

Many people are reflecting on their own role in the path to Reconciliation right here on Whadjuk Noongar land.

Beaufort Rotary Club are offering an extended workshop to Rotarians and the local community, to create an opportunity for us all to come together and explore ideas and enrich our understanding of this complex issue.

Danny and Tim use an engaging, interactive, and conversational approach. They’ll explore, together ‘what does real ‘reconciliation’ look like, and why does it matter?’ . They will guide us through an overview of the experience and impact of dispossession on Aboriginal people, perspectives on current issues, and ways for thinking about how Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and groups can work together.

This community event will be held on Whadjuk country. We acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people as the traditional custodians of the land, and recognise the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We extend our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders both past and present.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:

Danny Ford

After almost thirty years in the state public service mostly in Executive positions within the now Department of Communities, and other Departments, Danny is now an established consultant. He has a community development approach that seeks partnerships to work towards a common goal that meets stakeholder needs.

Danny has a high level of knowledge and experience with issues impacting on Aboriginal families and communities with networks at all levels within WA and interstate. He has strong facilitation, negotiation and engagement abilities and has led major projects that require cooperation and collaboration throughout Western Australia.

Danny has a Bachelor of Social Work, Curtin University, WA. and a Diploma of Teaching, Mt Lawley Teachers College, WA. Danny is a proud Nyoongar man who lives in Perth.

Tim Muirhead

Over thirty years Tim Muirhead, of the CSD Network has amassed wide experience in all aspects of community development, working with all spheres of government, the non-government sector and community groups.

Tim works to foster collaborative approaches between people with often diverse knowledge, skills and perspectives. He has gained a reputation as a community development practitioner, trainer, facilitator and policy adviser of considerable skill and passion. He works in a wide range of capacities, from volunteering in local community groups through to advising various government departments.

Tim has worked for more than twenty one years in the pursuit of Reconciliation. In partnership with Aboriginal colleagues, he specialises in building trust and collaboration between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in workplaces and communities. He is the author of Weaving Tapestries – a handbook for building communities and Finding Heraan, and provides extensive training in various aspects of community development, and inter-group partnerships. This community development training is founded on a commitment to ‘developing spirit’ – a powerful concept that drives all his work.
