Breaking Bread
Event description
Olive Roots Collective invites you to join us on Wednesday 9th July for an evening of interactive community learning, followed by a four course Palestinian meal, both centred around the bakeries of Gaza. We encourage you to deeply consider the importance of flour in Palestinian cooking and heritage, and the threat that its forced scarcity poses.
Held at the legendary Dusty Knuckle Bakery in Dalston, this evening will be split into several elements under one ticket:
🍞An interactive community learning session on the history of flour in Gaza, and its influential role throughout the Israeli occupation.
🍞An opportunity to bake your own Palestinian flatbread
🍞A four(?) course meal centred on traditional Gazan food
🍞Conversation prompts to end the evening. Get to know your neighbours!
🎟️General tickets are priced at £30, with £15 low-income and £45 solidarity tickets also available; this will be a cosy event with limited tickets.
All proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go towards both Thamra and Palestine Action. Thamra is a Palestinian organisation based in Gaza, distributing seeds to local families in an effort to create self-sustaining, fresh food sources. Palestine Action is a direct action movement committed to ending global participation in Israel’s genocidal and apartheid regime.
