Breaking Ground: A Policy Discussion on Housing and Infrastructure
Event description
Join ThinkTennessee on Wednesday, April 9th for an informative and engaging discussion about potential policies and innovative strategies to house more Tennesseans across the state.
Tennessee is not building enough housing to keep up with the demand from added jobs and new residents. According to ThinkTennessee's just-released policy brief, the state only added 7 houses for every 10 jobs between 2020 and 2023. In part due to our lack of housing supply, costs have increased significantly for Tennessee families, especially for lower-income households. Since 2013, median monthly housing costs increased 32%, and more than a quarter (26.5%) of Tennessee households are cost burdened. What can local policymakers, developers, and advocates do to encourage and produce more attainable housing in Tennessee?
Our event will feature speakers and panelists from the home building industry as well as state and community housing leaders:
- Dhathri Chunduru, Tennessee Housing Development Agency
- Tifinie Capehart, SilverPointe Properties
- Ramsey Cohen, Clayton Homes
- Ethan Collier, Collier Development
- David McGowan, Regent Homes
- Adriane Harris, ThinkTennessee & HarCo, LLC (moderator)
This event will be a great opportunity for homebuilders and housing leaders to gather for a fruitful discussion about potential policy solutions to development challenges and how we can work together to build more housing across the state.
