Description

Join Woodend Landcare and fauna ecologist, John Harris (Wildlife Experiences) for an early morning stroll along Five Mile Creek to discover what birds are active when many of us are just starting our day.

You’ll learn how scientists conduct bird surveys and how to identify some of our local feathered friends.

A free light breakfast will be available at the end of the walk.

Birds recorded at this event will be included in the Woodend Landcare Fauna Discovery Project.

FAQs

  • What do I need to bring?
    • Sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather and activities.

    • Binoculars (if you have any).

    • Mobile phone (to help you identify birds). You may wish to download a birding app, such as Merlin Bird ID, before the event.

  • Can children attend?

Children are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, especially near the water.

  • Why is there a limited number of tickets?

Large numbers of people make noise and scare off wildlife, therefore fauna discovery events for this project are limited to 30 people.

One of the goals of the Fauna Discovery grant is to increase our Woodend Landcare membership through providing educational events to the broader community. To meet this goal, half of the tickets (15 of 30) are available to the general public, and half to Woodend Landcare members.

Click the "Get Tickets" button to grab your non-member's ticket(s) now. If the 15 tickets are already taken, you will be out on the waitlist. If any member's tickets are still available on 9 October, these will be allocated to people on the non-members waitlist (and vice versa).

  • What happens if the weather is inclement?

If the weather is looking hazardous, an email will be sent asap prior to the start time to inform everyone who has registered of alternative arrangements or cancellation.
