BREATH BASICS: A beginner guide to helpful breathing practices
Event description
BREATH BASICS: A beginner guide to helpful breathing practices for life
Our breath is the corner stone of our wellbeing (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual). There is a breathing technique for everyone and a way of breathing for every situation, however, there is no 'one size fits all' breath practice. We all benefit most from developing an evolving and personalised set of practices overtime.
How well we breathe (or not) is related to the health of every system in the human body and can be purposely employed to strengthen, support and nourish those systems. Learning a few basic breathing practices can help us navigate and respond to our lives but such practices are often overlooked, under accessed or made overly complicated. Whilst we are aware of the benefits of meditation and mindful breathing, many people find it difficult to know where to start, struggle to maintain their practice or find such practices to be overwhelming and unhelpful.
This workshop is a response to the need for simple tools to start people off on their breath journey and support them to navigate the plethora of options out there.
We will explore helpful strategies for how we might choose the best breath practice for our personal needs as well as different situations we might find ourselves in. We will briefly discuss the role of the autonomic nervous system and various emotional states and how this might impact on which breath practice we employ and what simple embodiment exercises we can draw on to support and complement our practice.
We will discuss common pitfalls, useful tips and have an experience with a range of basic breath practices to start building our own personalised toolkit.
