Wheelwright encompasses a rugged alternative rock sound with elements of pop and hints of grunge from the sprawling desert city of Phoenix, Arizona. Fronted by Jared Kolesar, who uses a devil-may-care spirit to comment on tumultuous contemporary relationships and existentialism that comes from hope and youth in a world that isn’t kind to either. The songs aren’t full of idealism, yet they capture a jagged wholesomeness that reflects on the human experience. No darkness without light, no laughter without at least some suffering, no thoughtfulness without some recklessness. Songs of self-acceptance and love without the kumbaya bullshit. Instead, it’s the idea that we are all beautiful and flawed, stuck here with each other, whether we like it or not so might as well march on together into the uncertainty of what’s next.
