Youth Development Australia (YDA) and the Australian Education Union (AEU) are co-hosting the ‘Bridging the Divide Summit’ to be held in Melbourne at Centrepiece at Melbourne Park on the 10 - 11 April, 2024.

Over two days the Bridging the Divide Summit aims to bring together over 1,000 educators from early childhood, primary and secondary education along with TAFE teachers, students, and other stakeholders to discuss, debate, and offer solutions and a roadmap to address inequity in education.

Bridging the Divide is not just a talk fest

The Bridging the Divide Summit is a strategic opportunity to join other stakeholders from across Australia to outline the challenges, as well as the aspirations and solutions needed in ensuring that every child and young person has access to the best quality education that can be provided.

➤ The Summit will provide a roadmap for addressing inequity and inequality in education.

➤ This Summit will be hybrid with options to attend both in-person and online.

The Australian Education Union

The Australian Education Union (AEU) represents Australian public school, early childhood, and TAFE teachers, education leaders, and education support staff industrially and professionally. It represents over 185,000 members.

The AEU has been campaigning for some time to have public schools funded at a level that provides every child and young person with the best quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Youth Development Australia

Youth Development Australia Ltd (YDA) was created in 2005 as a platform for change and as a way of exploring, developing, and implementing innovative youth development initiatives. YDA has a foundational commitment to disadvantaged young Australians. The participation of young Australians in the building of their future is a core value. Exercising independence, YDA seeks to be a ‘platform for change’ and a vehicle that young people can use to realise their ambitions and meet their needs in the 21st Century world to come.

What the summit aims to achieve

The Bridging the Divide Summit:

Provides a meeting point for a diverse range of stakeholders to determine what we need to keep, change, create, and act to achieve equity in our education system and ensure every child and young person receives a quality education.
Brings together leaders from across sectors to identify the practices that will have the biggest positive and lasting impact on students now and into the future.
Aims to support teachers in acquiring practical skills and knowledge that can help address inequity in their school and classroom.
Will inform our advocacy going forward to campaign for resources to facilitate an equitable public education system.

The Bridging the Divide Summit 2024 has four primary objectives:

➤ Keep

The Summit will assess what to keep to achieve an equitable education system for all. It's important not to discard valuable policies or practices; instead, we should recognise and build upon our current strengths.

➤ Change

The Summit will explore changes, adjustments, and enhancements essential to securing well-funded and adequately resourced early education, primary and secondary schools, and TAFE. This ensures that all children and young people receive a high-quality education that helps them achieve their full potential.

➤ Create

The Summit will provide a national opportunity to engage in discussions, debates, and consensus-building regarding the missing components and necessary initiatives to establish a high-quality and equitable education system for all children and young people.

➤ Act

To actively participate in discussions about the collective actions required to compel all governments to enact the necessary changes for achieving an equitable education system.

Concession Tickets

Anyone aged under 30 years, students, and concession cardholders are eligible for the concession rate.

Please note that when placing bulk orders you will need to have the details of each attendee on the order; only the person who makes the purchase can edit the order, and other attendees on the order cannot edit it.

Orders can be paid for via invoice, just go through the ticket registration process, and at the end select an invoice as your payment option and fill in the invoice details.
