Event description

Brighter Future is a new night curated by Belgian dj/producer Gratts who recently relocated to Kaurna.

After kicking of the series with the Wax'o Paradiso and Donald's House pairs from Naarm, this time we welcome Montréal selector Gene Tellem to showcase her brand of deep, lights-dialled-low, atmospheric and hypnotic house music: grooves for both nodding heads and wiggling bodies.Gene released records on Who Says No, Sounds of Beaubien Ouest (SOBO), dropped two EPs on the renowned Wolf Music label from London and runs he own label Bienvenue Recordings (est. 2019). The newest outing on her label is a collab with fellow producer Gabriel Rei, singer/songwriter Laroie, and drummer Pascal Deaudelin as Secret Witness: a masterclass in deep, sophisticated vocal electronic bliss.Gene is currently on an Australia tour playing a few Naarm and Eora hotspots and we simply cannot wait to welcome her at Sugar for the last gig of her voyage as well as her Kaurna debut.

Support by veteran Naarm selector Dan Beck (Revolver Upstairs), well known for his ability to shift genres and styles at a whim. Over the years, Dan has performed with local and International acts such as Keb Darge, The Bamboos, Charles Webster, Daniel Bell, Russ Gabriel and Ricardo Villalobos to name a few, playing at spots like the beloved Honky Tonks, Section 8, Workshop, Howler, Renaissance, Kult (London), Future (Jakarta) and the list goes on. Production wise, Dan just released his powerful debut EP on Akamady Records.

Belgian selector Gratts will kick off the night. Join us for a night of hazy house grooves. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the Kaurna People, on whose land this event is taking place. We pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

Bubbles + smoke provided.
