Bright Ideas Online Workshop: Finding an Audience

Bright Ideas workshops are designed to support creative arts projects and careers for members of the University of Sydney community, by building business skills.

At Finding an Audience, you will learn how to grow your community and engage people. This session is designed to get you thinking about how to attract customers or event attendees. It covers marketing basics, including defining your value, market segmentation and messaging.

Why are the workshops online?

We consider our responsibility to support public health efforts to limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission. During this time we know members of our community may be stuck overseas or making the decision to self-isolate.

Here at INCUBATE we want to continue to support and deliver high value to our community, and will do so by providing as many of our programs as we can online.

How the workshop will be conducted:

The workshop will be streamed by the facilitator by Zoom videoconferencing.

Before the workshop, you will receive a link. This will not require any further account set up on your part, you will be able to simply click and enter the workshop. You will then be able to participate from wherever your location may be and gain further links to resources and activities from the workshop.

We recommend using a laptop or desktop PC, with a webcam and a headset, to access the workshop. Alternatively, you can download the Zoom app to your phone. We are in the process of investigating options which might support students who don’t have access to reliable internet.

Who can join?

Bright Ideas has been developed for University of Sydney students, alumni, and staff, who are welcome to join this introductory workshops for free.

There is no assumed knowledge to join Bright Ideas.

Is there a cost?

Workshops are free for all attendees.

Do I need an idea?

Nope! All you need is an interest in the arts, and in learning some strategic tools to help you launch a creative project, or to help you in your future career.

What is the program for?

Bright Ideas is for creatives who want to learn how to manage business basics, project management, marketing and/or fundraising. You might be studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts, have recently graduated from The Conservatorium of Music, or you might be a USYD staff member who is looking to dabble in photography. Attendees from all fields are welcome.

What kind of creative projects?

We welcome people from all creative fields - visual art, music, theatre, dance, sculpture, writing, you name it. You might be an actor, producer, painter, curator, editor or choreographer. If you're unsure if this is for you, reach out to us!

Who is the facilitator?

Rebecca Sedicol has a background in program development, project management and marketing. Since studying a Bachelor of Arts, she has been passionate about supporting the university arts community and has channelled this passion into redeveloping the Bright Ideas program.

Lucas Hakewill has a background in music and brings experience in entrepreneurship and technology, and is always excited about solving big problems with empathy ad creativity.

Bright Ideas is delivered by INCUBATE, the award-winning startup accelerator program founded by the University of Sydney Union.
